Magnus Carlsen: Skills and Fans

Wow he lost a couple games!
He just beat Caruana (today) in the 10th round of WRC and is the sole leader at 8/10

Yes, Vlad, I do respond to posts. I am quite sure neither were "random". For your edification, I have included a link to the definition of this word. I am not sure if I understand your usage. In what sense is my response random?

it's not exactly new though is it, the world champion and clear world's best not winning every game and every tourney? (Linares 94). Carlsen's rating says it all about his level of dominance. And people always like to see the best players lose, bored of them winning all the time, until they are at the end of their careers and everyone roots for them again, hoping to see just a bit more.

Random: No correlation regarding topic discussed, or points mentioned, or previous statements or objects in a set or list.
You fail to see the correlation between your post and a man sleeping?

This is a repost by me from another thread addressing the same issue.
I did some math out of curiosity & came up with this. This was after the finish of the recent Norway tournament:
Since the world title match Magnus has played 25 tournament games. Against an average rating of 2758 he has scored 17-8 (68%) for a performance rating of 2893. That's the level he's playing at on average.
Vishy has played in the same period 21 tournament games. Against an average rating of 2761 he has scored 12-9 (57%) for a performance rating of 2806. That's the level he's playing at on average.
Everyone loses games. Everyone blunders, every one of the world champions finish 2nd or worse in many, many tournaments. Carlsen, if you want to look up his results, finishes 1st most of the time & when he doesn't win it he's 2nd or so. Rarely is he 3rd or lower & the few times he is just compare it to past world champions.
One event doesn't tell a whole lot about the differences in strength. Their overall average has to be taken into account. Not a few games or just one tournament.
On average he's incredibly rock solid & consistent.

So you're also saying I DO know what random means?
Yes, you apparently do, but you just failed to see the connection between your post and mine due to how interesting and original you think your post is. That is where we disagree, I think.
MrDamonSmith was more polite about it than me. You should thank him!

That's true, anything could happen. What are the odds though? If you were to bet a significant amount of money & took your choice very seriously, which player player would you choose?

Does anyone else want to look up each of the world champions records after they won the title since Fischer (because he didn't play anymore & there was no rating system internationally before that)? That would be Karpov, Kasparov, Kramnik, Anand. Those other guys weren't real world champions because they didn't actually beat the champ in a match. I'm certain that every one of them lost games & tournaments they were expected to win. Yes, even to players more than 135 points below their own rating. Nobody is a machine, everybody plays way below their average abilities sometimes. Every single great player messes up, always have. Some more than others.
