And a jaw dropping silence fell on this very Carlsson thread
Magnus Carlson
Unknown to the general public maybe due to the terrible way the chess establishment markets itself plus Carlsen doesn't really have the personality to overcome that.
But a Carlsen WC match vs an American in NYC probably could have changed that a lot. Unfortunately, I doubt a Karjakin Carlsen match in NYC will help much and a WC match in Moscow, forget about it.

I still say he has to work on his public relations somehow.I did some surfing on him and he impressed me a lot.

Why is this man so relatively unknown by the general public. At least i think so.Everybody (or almost anybody) knows Kasparov Karpov Tal Aljechin Fisher etc etc.I understand he is 25 years old but still fairly unknown.I never heard of the guy but it could be me, being reasonably new at chess.
?

guys if carlsen is mispelled, it is a troll thread. get over it. Carlsen is well known already
Or maybe it's just an honest misspelling?

It was honest misspelling I had a few pernod drinks with ice cubes. When I am drunk i dont play chess.

Possibly because people always misspell his name. If he were from Sweden, his name would be "Carlson," but he is from Norway, so his name is "Carlsen."
To be correct: Sven Magnus Öen Carlsen.

Multimedia age. Niche interests. Chess was on the tele in the UK when Short played Gazza. Same for boxing, tens of millions used to tune into the world heavyweight ch'ship, everyone knew who Ali, Foreman and Frazier were. In the UK everyone knew who the British champion was. Nowadays most ppl couldn't tell you who the world heavyweight champ is (there are three lol). Carlsen is generally better known than Tal and Alekhine, or so i'd guess b/c he's current. Fischer, Kasparaov and Karpov are still very much iconic figures b/c forty-somethings and above were all plugged into the same small handful of media platforms. As that generation dies off so too will their 'heroes' legend fade a little; although not among hardcore chess fans.
