Nakamura is chess 960 world champion. He has the highest rated blitz rating the world. He is current world number 4 on the november list and number 3 on the live list. He is no carlsen but he is pretty good and controversial player who plays exciting games and is not afraid to take risks. That is why we like him.

You can't critique the skill of players who make moves you just do not comprehend. Saying that you can have whatever sort of opinion you want about his fans -- to me this is just fruitless banter.

I didn't care for his tweets about Carlsen and his analogy to Sauron but that sort of stuff is undeniably controversial and stirs up the community which is so great for Chess in general since any game needs rivalry and passion to attract a new/younger audience.

jrmagnus precisely. Naka doesn't mind being the heel. Magnus is the face. I notice Hikaru's twitter following increased from 10k or so to over 16k followers over the course of the Carlsen-Anand WCC match. Part of this was due to his random tweets. Some were inflammatory, some insightful and some just silly. People are intrigued by this guy and his chess. Commentators quoted his tweets during the games and compared his ideas to other pre-eminent GMs like Nigel Short and Caruana. Nakamur is good for the game, on and off the board.

http://www.chess.com/news/world-team-championship-underway-1280 ok so Nakamura beat Kramnik. A fantastic game by him and a nice win. Korbov won two games in a row and only one or two of the comments mention him. So why is this? Yes nakamura beat kramnik, the now #4, but didn't beat Vasilly ivanchuck. why does the attention all go to him? this is what i am talking about

chessmicky is Grishulk a new player? lol yeah i know i can't spell their names either

another thing is i did not create this forum to down nakamura or polgar, but to get some discution on this subject, so don't go at each others throats.

It's your perception that Nakamura gets all this attention. Maybe because of your location - he's the best North American player. Personally I think he gets proportionate attention.

I'm not entirely sure of course, not being a crazed fan of either of them, but Hikaru won the Wijk aan Zee A-group in 2012 I think, and Judit shared first in the European individual championships (third by tiebreak?) also in 2012. I think. Where I say 2012 it may also be 2008. I have this thing with dates in the past.

edit: Nakamura won Wijk aan Zee in 2011. Judit Polgar shared first at the EICC 2011.

Your first comment seemed like you were knocking both players. I think one reason for Nakamura's popularity is the US is a large country and he is the best young American player. After this forum topic, I will pay more attention to Naka, never been a huge fan, but he sounds kinda cool now;-) As for Polgar she is the best woman player ever.,.enough said.

lol you can't be serious. Given the rating gap of about 200 points there is absolutely NO way Polgar could beat Carlsen in a match. you were joking right?

Jutka is way overhyped. So far he "just" has just some wins against all living world champions, excluding Garry Jadoubov, while her highest rating is only 96 points higher than the highest any other woman has achieved.

pardon me sir what are you talking about? thanks

not all his fans of course, but some of them drive me crazy

So, you admit what we already knew - that you're crazy. Self awareness is a good thing. The next step is to get help. Trollers Anonymous is available somewhere on the site. Good luck.

don't be nasty, not that i care, but if anyone is making unnesisary comments i will ban them

In that particular case, it's called stupidity... not sarcasm.

The guy does mean what he said, period.
