Horrible breach of etiquette; no year-long "I'm quitting chess" thread?  We're better off without folks that don't stick to the rules...

lol, I wish he did that along with RDR75/-X- and I am sure we would have sucessfully encouage them to stay maybe that what they were afraid of.

lol! The first thing  I thought was, "at least he spared us the long, maudlin farewell thread." Was he in any groups? Maybe one of those people know why he left.

strangely both were in the RSS group.

You southern hemisphere types do everything back to front Laughing

I'd expect every uni here to start a semester after Christmas and after New Years, but my experience certainly doesn't cover the nation.

Maybe he'll come back as this:

wow, that was a surprise. He was one of my favorite forum posters around here, it's a pity he decided to leave, and that he had to take all his contributions with him. I hope he comes back.

If I remember correctly he is a student but what was he study though, does anyone know ? Maybe that why he closed his account so he can focus on his work.

He's had his account for over two years. Why would he have to close it?

tonydal's reduced presence is not a good thing, incidentally. I miss him and he's still here.

 Tonydal just changed his name.

That's what I was wondering.  If it's just a matter of needing more time for other things one could still leave the account open, even if you don't intend to play at all.

The unperson policy here really sucks.  A lot of good posts disappear because chess.com is so anxious to rid themselves of any presence of ex-members.

leaving the account open might be too tempting to play chess again and not being able to focus on his work/life etc. ?

"The unperson policy here really sucks.  A lot of good posts disappear because chess.com is so anxious to rid themselves of any presence of ex-members." agreed.

Two of the universities I attended were on the quarter system (academic year is three 10-week terms instead of two 15-week semesters).  One of them got in 3 weeks of the second term before Christmas, and the other waited until after New Years to start the second term.  The later one was a bad schedule.  Classes in the fall didn't start until the final week of September, and the regular year didn't end until well into June, which meant it was impossible to get decent summer jobs because they had all been filled weeks earlier by students at other schools who were already available.

Both of those schools have since switched to the more common two semester system.
