For me, a game is no longer of interest once you or your opponent is clearly lost (even if its just a piece down with no compensation). To not resign 'feels' disrespectful. I don't value a win by time at that point in the game, the game is already won. When they play on, I feel like now we are just playing silly kids chess and i have almost zero joy in it. Sometimes i just resign because i don't want to play the silly time game. In reality, for some that is part of it, and the obvious counter-argument being that while I may have obtained the winning position, I took too long to obtain that position, and so if i am unable to capitalise, then I don't deserve victory. I see and understand both ways of looking at it. I think this stems ultimately from me wanting to play a quick game, but not wanting to play blitz chess, if that makes sense, though for many, they are here to play blitz chess, and there's nothing wrong with that.
Then there is the more extreme case though, where you have a bunch of queens on the board and have no time issue whatsoever.. at that point i could just end the game, but instead i find myself rudely telling them 'you can hit the resign button you know' all while dancing my king around the board and promoting more peices. I guess because at that point it feels like they are just being rude by not resigning. ..but i know deep down that they could still just be a blitz player dedicated to a wild extent to obtaining a better result. Their odds of a stalement are low, but not necessarily impossible. Praying for that silly mistake or lost internet connection. Fun means different things to different people, and it's silly of me to get frustrated by it.
