People who think they were winning every game!

I've seen a lot of people say"Oh,I was completely winning but made a silly error and managed to lose'' and similar stuff when they hadn't even equalised in the game! This really annoys me a lot.Just get over the fact that you were not winning, you made a lot of mistakes and try to improve on them instead of making stories about how u were completely winning against a person rated 300-400 points above you.Have any of you guys heard thiis? If so,then what are your opinions about it?

there is no merit in winning, only in having won!!!, if you can't convert a winning position then you can't win. Points are irrelevant. focus on your mistakes for your next game.

Huh?I'm not even talking about converting a winning position.I was talking about the players who think they were winning every game even though they werent even equal.I was talking bout it as an excuse. Thanks for the advice though.

Yeah, that's one of IM Danny Rensch's pet peeves also.  "Dude, like I was totally winning, and then this one bad move".  You can hear that after every tournament and 99.99% of the time it's total nonsense.  Losing moves come from losing positions.

And yet it does happen. I know the times when I was winning and blew it. I also know when I was getting my ass whipped.

It happens many times,I know. But some think that they were winning every game, this is what i hate.

but its like scolding a wall, i mean it takes 300 to 400 points more to realize that their positions was worse in the first place.

i said pretty much this to someone i'm currently playing a cc game with, although i think it is definitely true! i was two pawns up and had a very strong position and i threw it away on move 31 with a bad miscalculation. so yeah, it definitely does happen. losing moves don't always come from a losing position.

Many of my friends who are good enough to realize that their position was wrose do this too, they just use it as an excuse to explain why they lost the game.

Is it just me, or is this thread calling for TheBackyardProfessor?

Scottrf

I was.

I agree, people who do that, are either embarrased for losing, or just do not know that they were worse.

Maybe these people are relatives of the Iraqi foreign minster who said that they were winning the war when the US et al invaded.

OK, having just thrown away a slightly better position with an "oh so clever attempt to complicate" I now revise my estimate to 90%.  I'm not being selfabsorbed, am I?

lol

Stormstout

I don't think anyone would say that knowing the position was losing. It doesn't make sense o.o

varelse1

Yes, I've known several players like that.

But that's fine! As long as they keep thinking it, they will keep underestimating my chances.

It does make sense when you use it to explan your loss.

varelse1

On the flip side of this coin, it's much easier to win a game, if you actually believe you can.

Just need to remember to be objective, when it comes time to decide to accept that draw offer, or go in for that perpetual.

Of course, there have been a couple times Houdini tried to tell me I was winning against that master as well.

Must be some conspiracy, to stop me from improving.
