I often play games when I make a move, that puts a player in a tough position, but then they randomly disconnect instead of making a move or playing causing the game to be abandon? And now I'm in a game where I used the Englund gambit and pinned the queen with my bishop, since then for 8 minutes the player has only made one move - hasn't even disconnected and won on time

Yeah, it happened to me at a lower rating too as people who don't really care about improving just leave the game without resigning. It stops being an issue around ~1200 rating because people are generally more understanding at that rating and resign instead of just leaving. It just comes down to respect.

I have faced the same issue twice in one week. Really bad sportsmanship. In one game I had to wait 6 minutes while in other I guess 8.
