What about Nakamura not being world champion?

Considering the fact Carlsen has just made himself World Champions, that he is rated roughly 100+ than Nakamura, that he has scored 7 wins (with 0 losses) against Nakamura and that Nakamura has not qualified for the Candidates Tournament, and some other unimportant things... Don't you think Nakamura has some chances not to become World Champion?

Well first, doesn't winning this tournament in London qualify Naamura for the candidate's tournament?  I'd like to see the actual ratings, because I don't think Carlson is 100 points above.  Spasky was ahead of Fischer in games won before Fischer ripped Spasky a new one back in 1972.  Considering Carlsen got into the world championship because he won more of his points in his equal score in the candidates than Kramnik, I'd say, several elite players could win the championship if they are on their game during that 2 week period.  What did Carlsen show us? Basically, he fights hard and doesn't accept draws when other grandmasters do.  Right?

This author thinks he should contend.

I think he has excellent chances of not becoming the world champion soon.

If he really tries hard, and stops winning tournaments, he might in fact NEVER become champion.

One thing for sure is that Hikaru has the aggressive style necessary to win the world championship. Kramnik has a better chance to ever NOT get the world championship again than Hikaru. Hikaru beat Gelfand at the end of the London tournament and that was the previous challenger to the world championship. I'd say if you don't think Hikaru Nakumura deserves a chance at the championship, you need to get your head examined.

Remember, they are holding championships every year now. How long do you really think Nakamura will be able to restrain himself!?!?

@chuckfloyd

The current rating difference between Magnus and Naka is 83 points.

Which isn't 100 points. But its a lot closer than it is to 0.

Yes.

A very tiny, slim chance. But a chance nonetheless.

Nakamura has said it isnt importannt if he becomes world champion.

I also have a chance to not become World Chess Champion. A very good chance, in my opinion.

You can hardly call Hikaru a loser ...he is after all in the  top ten players in the world. I hope he does become world champ ;I like the way he struts his stuff both on and off the board.

Only Nakamura can answer this. Maybe one day he will be a world champion, maybe he'll call it quits and go do something else with his life. Hey, maybe he'll decide playing blitz and bullet on Chess.com is way more fun than flying around the world and playing in FIDE tournaments for money!

But I root for Nakamura for his fighting chess and for United States chess and his representing it. So "lets go Naka lets go".

But are you sure that you are trying with all your heart?

If you really decide not to become world champion, the universe conspires to make it happen.

Right !....When other super GM's decide the 1/4 pawn advantage isn't worth it ?....Well, Monster thinks otherwise....and look where he is now....Fischer couldn't stand soft play....despised it with a passion....look at what he did....Scared the wits outta the Soviet School....left them bewildered....and Monster's done the same to today's top GM's....they know the battle's just begun at time control 40 moves....if they can last that long....Smile....

The_Ghostess_Lola

uhhh, blueemu's no birdbrain....This person can play chess....dangerous....review this individual's play.

Typical nike commercial mentality...

Well, last time Nakamura was crushing Magnus, but blundered a pawn move. I think Nakamura has a CHAMPION AGGRESSIVE style, and have high chances to becoming World Champion. What I think he lacks is patience and persistence, that Magnus has a lot.
