What about Nakamura not being world champion?

He is the biggest threat to Carlsen

If the guy you destroy every time you play is your biggest threat, you're doing something right.

lol @scottrf very true. pedela Naka is not Carlsens worry

I think Caruana will prove Carlsens biggest threat, eventually.

Naka's win today was pretty special. That was quite a piece sac he played as Black.

Nakamura has a career score of 4-0 against Anand, with almost all the games played while Anand was World Champion. I wonder if any other player ever had a similar undefeated career score against a reigning World Champion.

I am sure Hikaru would be happier, if he could put togetyher a similar streak, against the current World Champion...

Nakamura had such a good World Champion-streak going with Kramnik (5-3) and Anand (4-0), but Carlsen (0-10) kind of destroyed it.

I also think Caruana is a more serious threat to Carlsen, especially when he plays white against the Viking. He feels the Ruy really well: beating Aronian in his pet Marshall and Magnus in the Berlin is a significant achievement.

Yep about Fabiano Caruana being a serious contender. I'll be stunned if he fails to qualify for the next candidates tournament. Naka is just sooooooo inconsistent. But it's a hard hill to climb. 1st they have to qualify for that tournament & then win it! It's almost insurmountable except for the elite players. Naka & Fab have to prove they're part of the elite crowd consistently, not just get their ratings up there sometimes but actual tournament victories when they count. If they're not winning them at least finish 2nd or 3rd. Regularly. Not every now & then.
