What in the world has happened to Radjabov??

He was rated 2700+ ...? Otherwise he couldn't be wildcard.

Again, the wildcard brings in more money for the players (because more sponsor motivation), when the chances that results are screwed up by one player under the other 7 are minimal.

If there were six wildcards to be chosen from anyone who has a FIDE license, things would be different of course.

I read it in a chess magazin: about his remark about Kramnik, and that he does not talk to Aronian. It can be a lie (I am not so naive to believe in just one news paper), but who knows that it IS a lie ?

The problem is, I have never heard before that Radiabov was not gentle.

I have never heard anyone suggest that Radjabov makes "weird and hateful remarks against Kramnik", that he repeatedly states that he wants Kramnik to lose games, or that he wouldn't be on speaking terms with Aronian, so I can't imagine there to be any truth in it. Aronian and Radjabov discuss their games afterwards, and I have never heard the latter say anything negative about Kramnik.

This really must be one of the quickest and biggest falls from almost 2800 ever. Radjabov had an official rating of 2793 in April (at that time he had been 2780+ for a whole year) and today May 15th he is down to 2737.

I can only repeat, I read it in a serious chess magazine. True or not.

But the fact that you have not heard it does not make it untrue.

I hate to see him in company with a politically influencial oil tycoon from Baku.

So will you mention which serious chess magazine that wrote (and where) about Radjabov making "weird and hateful remarks about Kramnik", and claimed that he isn't on speaking terms with Aronian?

Maybe this explains why Radjabov isn't on speaking terms with Aronian, or at least why some people seem to think that?

ok if radjabov was rated even 2701 he was allowed to be in this prestigious tournament and this isnot good.this is after all chess candidates! 2701 means you renot even in top 40.what if next cycle this happens?then many talents lose their chance to play in chess candidates and try their luck to become world champion.and this can hurt that player with wild card too.it can shatter his confidence because he isnot ready to compete with elites and loses games one after another.the point is very clear.in such a prestigious tournament just chess skills should be counted but they can be allowed to bring their players in world cup with a wild card.then if their players can finish in a top place and get permission to play in chess candidates it is acceptable.

imagine football world cup is in brasil and they let brasil be in quarter final without playing since they are paying for everything.

It is the german magazine 'Schach'.

It's happening on Eurovision (GER, ITA, GBR, FRA) I believe?

This is what he sent to chessbase after his interview with chessbase:

Dear Sir,

I would like to appeal to all reporters writing about chess, the editors-in-chief of chess magazines and web sites, to all reporters and chess fans.

As a sportsman playing on the international level and giving plenty of interviews, I, unfortunately, cannot follow all statements ascribed, sometimes in a supernormal form, to me by reporters.

All the more, reporters do not submit to me the text of my interview before it is published, which is what happened in the latest case. Therefore, please, treat this issue with due understanding.

True, we do not have simple relations with Armenia, we are virtually in a state of war, and 20% of our lands are under occupation. Naturally, all this leaves its effect when contests are held between our countries, and the stir created by media and fans from both sides are understandable.

However, I would like to state that the Azerbaijani people, including me as its representative, are tolerant and will never stoop to pathological nationalism. We all sincerely believe that common sense will prevail at the end and the conflict between our countries will be resolved peacefully and within international law.

Yours truly
GM Teimour Radjabov

Good to read that letter. It means to me that some journalist(s) did wrong to Radiabov.

IF he does not like Aronian, it is not for nationalist reasons.

To dislike happens all the time between top players. Botwinnik once said, you can be in good terms with your closest competitors, but you cannot be friends with them. (You may agree with that statement or not.)

He was no.4 few months ago (only behind Carlsen, Aronian and Kramnik), now he's on 27! Quite a drop in less than half a year.

There were other strong players who came back after some thirsty times:

Kamsky, Morosevich.

I am sure, we will see many more great achievemnts of Ivanchuk as well.

For a letter of appeasement, there is certainly some provocation here...

(Of course, this does not mean that the journalist did not cut-and-distort the interview, and I take no position on the political problem - but it certainly was not a neutral move to put that in this letter)

Unfortunately, the conflict about the enclave Nagorni Karabah (former autonomous Soviet Republic, with majority of Armenian people, but being a part of Azerbaidzhan) is not over, only military actions have stopped.
