With reason... or within reason?
What is your favorite chess player? with reason.
I'm stuck in the 1850's/1860's therefore I nominate Paul Morphy. The "simplicity" of his wins are superb.
Induráin, best cyclist ever.
The man from Pamplona was pretty good to be sure. Eddy's (Merckx) the man though.
(I actually went on holiday to Pamplona in 2007 in the hope of trying to meet BigMig, but when I made enquiries at Villava no one was willing to help me track Indurain down!).
Bobby Fischer - Simply dominated the field
Anatoly Karpov - Very strong; his games inspire me
Garry Kasparov - Amazing attacker; super strong player
Magnus Carlsen - Wins all the time
In my opinion these are the best four players ever, but I'm basically just guessing, considering how little I really know about each.
Edit: You said favorite, not best. Hmmmm. I don't know. Probably my favorite players are the players I consider best, though whoever inspires me becomes my favorite player for a little while.
Kasparov because hes an incredible attacker and makes awesome sacrifices. Carlsen because he plays near pefect chess.
Still love Kasparov's immortal game.
Karpov. Brilliant player. Able to keep his mind cool throughout the whole game. And very kind person.
Garry Kasparov. The last World Champion to embrace an exciting, attacking style of chess. Too much fear in the players these days to lose. Womens chess is more exciting to watch as a spectator.
Tal. Tal was the type of guy to sack 9 pawns in a single game! Tal says, "Material? what is that?" I would watch Tal's games with popcorn.

No doubt he was a gangster. I remember the time when he screamed out: Say hello to my littol friend, after underpromoting a pawn to a knight for a win.
"I like Kramnik's playing style for black. It is simply but indestructable (His King Indian Defence)"
Kramnik has never played the King's Indian Defence...
I like Kramnik's playing style for black. It is simply but indestructable (His King Indian Defence). Carlsen for white. He plays like Kasparov especially in the opening. Also in my opinion, Carlsen is the strongest player in the endgame.
