" If you wish to succeed, you must brave the risk of failure." Garry Kasparov
What is your favorite chess quote of all time?

I sometimes ask my dog what's the best move to play. My doggie always says "push the f pawn". Usually that's rather dogdy.

Is there an emoji with its eyes rolling and its hand moving in a wanking motion? Because that would be a fitting response to #191's attempt at a 'joke.' You should've quit on page 9 while you were ahead.
There is always the risk of being over-confident when you are preparing to face a weaker player. : Viswanathan Anand
"1 e4
One of the best moves on the board!"
- Irving Chernev
I do not think that is the original. I think that that is the way John Nunn rewrote it when he did the algebraic rewrite.
I think it was back in 1992 that Fischer said, "That's what chess is all about. One day you give your opponent a lesson, the next day he gives you one."

It's my favourite quote too. I found an identical translation elsewhere on the Internet a few weeks ago. But just before you do what I did and engrave it irrevocably on a wooden board, note that it should be "that expresses" not "which expresses". Every time I look at my board it reminds me that my grammar is as poor as my chess!
"On the chessboard lies and hypocrisy do not survive long. The creative combination lays bare the presumption of lies; the merciless fact, culmination in checkmate, contradicts the hypocrites.”
―Emanuel Lasker
Translation:You can't bluff in chess

...not only can you bluff at chess, one can also cheat!
"Chess is as much a mystery as women" (?!); hardly, women only want a baby and your money...Chess demands your very soul.
AZ Quotes site has numerous quotes by many of the great chess masters and champions of yore.
Check it out. I found it quite entertaining and educational. They have R J Fischer, Karpov, and Kasparov, just to name a few.
