What should a 10-11 year old's rating be?

Hi!
My name is Lauren Goodkind and I'm a chess teacher based in California.
Everybody goes at their own improvement rate in chess. There are 10/11 year olds that have ratings of 2200 or higher because they take chess very seriously. There are 10/11 year olds that have ratings of 800 because they are just starting out.
When I was 10 years old, I didn't have a rating because I didn't take chess that seriously and didn't even play in tournaments. My rating back then would probably be 500.
I hope that this helps.

There is no way to tell. Just beginning, you must expect a low rating. If you've played for a while, studied and had some lessons, you will be stronger. If you have tremendous innate ability and started very young, you could be a strong player--at your age Capablanca and Reshevsky were both on tour playing simuls (and winning most games) vs serious adult players.
As long as you enjoy playing and are making progress, that's good enough.
