Yesterday I told someone they were nominated for the "Ridiculous Hyperbole of the Month" award and informed them that they were out in front of the pack.
That statement is no longer true.

a) The topic at hand is something which, in spite of ivan's earlier attempts at profundity (and very possibly because of those attempts, too), almost begs for a Bakhtinian irreverence. Jokes about Fischer are not necessarily about ridiculing the man, but they do serve the purpose of removing the false loftiness associated with wanton hero worship, and recover the genius in the name of the human.
b) Bobby Fischer, if given the chance to start over again, would have spent his years abducting cats, and selling them to research labs for personal gain. That's just a fact. There's no real evidence for it, but it is a fact.
