probably later on in his thirties, as he got mixed up with the Worldwide Church started by Armstrong. and he got angry with them.. amongst other life issues, complex guy who was always upset at the Russian system with good reason, lots of variables here! sad,

When Did Bobby Fischer Start 'Going Around the Bend?'

Anyone who blames Jews for their problems is not quite intelligent enough.
I believe it was the second his subconcious realized his mind was on decline. He rightly understood some inferiority to the powers that be and realized that only at his peak could he truly keep control of the chessboard we call life.
The crowds only side with winners. And Fischer was not about to cash out like a puppet. Kings are born. Fischer would never live life like a queen.
Fischer is the indie GOAT of chess.

To me, 'going around the bend' doesn't mean bat sh*t crazy. . . just means very eccentric with a strong dose of paranoid. I believe he was correct in many of his thinkings...the US gooberment WAS out to get him (taxes on his earnings) and the Russians in 1972 probably WERE colluding, getting together to discuss 'the game' overnight so Spassky could do better. He SHOULD have been angry at that 'cultish' church with old man Armstrong. Remember, he had an IQ of around 180 and could see many things most can't. Makes sense, in his 30's he started getting more intense and eccentric, like FischerFan said. Wow, lotta years between age 30 and 64, sitting around doing not much - could make anyone go round the bend. Still, yep, greatest of all time. I just saw Pawn Sacrifice and though pretty good, it portrayed him as too moody and brooding.

You did your homework, Master Po! agreed! Tal whom I respected a lot even said the Russians colluded against a young Fischer before 1972, to get many draws. thus Bobby saw thru that . Petrosian was guilty of it, so, Bobby was playing against a Russian Machine.

Petrosian, really? That sneaky/cheating Tiger! The US gooberment essentially had BF thrown in that Japanese jail (because he wouldn't share the money HE earned in the Iceland match) - think that wouldn't make you paranoid? Tal goes up on my top favorite list then. Robert James wasn't crazy a bit.

ha ha! yes, Tiger was a fine player, really, but I think the Russian government and chess establishment really coulkd not bear to lose to America, plus the space race was pretty hot there too as far as USA vs. USSR competing for that.. hm. Bobby was a complex dude for sure. Tal will always be a favorite plus he risked problems for telling the truth, He respected Fischer as well as Boris Spassky who was a first class gentlemen!

"maybe he didn't go around the bend, maybe everyone else has gone crazy." That's a strong possibility.
John Fogerty is secretly rated FIDE 2999.
Bobby is hanging out with D B Cooper in the Rocky Mts...they're both smoking weed.

he often felt people were looking over his shoulder watching his every move. totally irrational fears.

Very foolish comment. Remember that geniuses are often so far ahead of the rest of us that they seem crazy just because they can detect anomalies in logic and media claims that the rest of us can't, especially in topics the public has been conditioned to believe are crazy (ghosts, aliens, conspiracies, Atlantis, flat earth, telekinesis, etc.) and they often know enough that they can justify their claims to such an extent that most people would have extreme difficulty refuting their proof. Patent office reviewers of proposed inventions have had to learn this lesson the hard way, even if you haven't. Incidently, you'd be surprised at how convincing the evidence for a flat earth is, as well: I doubt most people here know enough about camera lenses, the many types of mirages, satellite mathematics, rocket trajectories, etc. to refute most of the claims of a flat earth.
With this consideration in mind, I recently began to research the claim that the Jewish Holocaust never happened, which Fischer believed. You'd be surprised at just how many *provably* false claims there are concerning the Holocaust, if you dare to defy societal norms (as Fischer did) and look for yourself instead of automatically believing the mainstream media (as the ignorant masses do). Take a look at the following video, for example. (NOTE: I am *not* saying that the Holocaust didn't happen--I haven't researched it in sufficient depth to make such a decision--only that many claims about it are certainly false.) It really makes one wonder how far this theory can be carried, and to me that corroborates that Fischer was indeed as extremely intelligent as commonly believed, as well as very open-minded, so let's get off of Fischer's back.

When did he seriously start getting paranoid, getting super eccentric, or going around the bend?
Was it after age 21? or around 28?
