I agree Fischer did very well to succeed given the Russian dominance in Chess, but in reality this in no way compares to Kasparov - rated world No. 1 according to Elo rating almost continuously from 1986 until his retirement in 2005.

Kasparov only retired in 2005 and by then computers were already better than humans. Bobby had no computers and nearly passed 2800.

Its amazing to me that people can consider a champion who wasnt able to win a single game in a 16 game match as a contender for " best ever " . Kasparov was unable to win even one game in his match with Kramnik in 2000 . The same Kramnik that couldnt win a single game in his match against a Shirov who had never beaten Kasparov ! Kramnik didnt earn his shot at Kasparov and Shirov was robbed !
