Will Caruana drop below 2800 again in 2017?

He could do both - go into the 2830s and then drop back down below 2800. A lot can change over the course of a year.
For Caruana to maintain his current rating or go even higher, he would have to be clearly the #2 player in the world, and at this point I don't think he is. I think he is in contention for the #2 spot with a few other players.

This question is as ridiculous as asking whether Ben Finegold will give a serious chess lecture.
So you think that Caruana won't ever drop below 2800 this year?

Carlsen could easily abdicate his #1 spot this year to either Caruana or any other of Kramnik (for once), So, Caruana or (believe it or not) Nakamura - or maybe even somebody else.

True. He can also get close to 2900 AND be eclipsed by somebody else...
Not likely in 2017 though.

My 2017 predictions:
- Carlsen won't cross 2800/2900
- Caruana won't cross 2800/2850
- Nakamura won't be (live) #1
- Carlsen won't be (live) #2
- Kramnik will win Candidates
I'm going to go on a limb and say yes, he will, although briefly. He will spend most of 2017 above 2800, and end the year above 2800 but below his curent rating (2827). What do other people think?
