Asymmetric chess-inspired experiment

I’ve been running a personal experiment exploring whether a chess-like strategy game can move beyond symmetric setups while still feeling fair and strategic.

The result so far is a small browser-based prototype with:

Three asymmetric factions
A few special abilities (beyond move/capture/castle)
End-row bonuses instead of pawn promotion
A slightly expanded 9×9 board

I’d really value feedback from chess players on a couple of things:

Does the learning curve feel reasonable?
Do the factions feel balanced, or does anything seem off?
