I'm in a region under a severe flood warning, the river near me is at record levels. We'll be fine here, my house is well above the water level, but I'm not sure if local infrastructure is vulnerable, so if I disappear offline for a few days please don't time me out. Thanks.

Floods at Ludlow Castle

Time to break that centre.

So sad to see those floods. Some of those homes look very historic, and I'm afraid the water is causing terrible damage. I hope everything is able to recover soon.

Sacking a piece so early? Guess I'll take it.

Not really a sacrifice if I immediately reclaim the material. I just won a pawn, but it has to be said you did well to keep it to just a single pawn. As best I can tell, you've only made one inaccuracy so far, which was 11...(1,6), it allowed me to activate pieces with tempo. Since then, you've made what I thought was your best move.

Thanks.

This town is indeed very historic, but it's old enough to have seen the river like this many times before. The river was 2cm short of it's record in Ludlow, set in 2007, but records don't date back as long as many of these properties, and it's believed it was a lot worse in 1886. The town will get through this, no problem.

As much as flooding is hugely stressful for those who are vulnerable, I prefer to be grateful that we are lucky enough to be able to take water for granted. Flooding is a lot better than drought.

Yes, I agree 100%. Sadly, as I'm sure you know, Australia is suffering from drought and fires. It's obviously less populated than England, but I feel bad for all the wildlife and loss of trees. Glad to know you survived the flooding, and most areas will hopefully recover back to normal soon.

Was it a blunder? Or maybe it was a sacrifice to trap your hawk. happy.png

I don't think so! Maybe I'm missing something though, I can definitely make bad moves.
