Random book opening
The concept is simple: Instead of starting with a normal board setup, you skip playing the opening and the game starts with a random position from a known book opening (both main lines and variations).
I think this game type would have several benefits:
1. It has the same concept as Fischer 960, in that it shifts focus from prep and memorization to calculation, however you still get positions that are standard to Chess
2. The asymmetrical nature of the starting position (both 960 and standard Chess variants start with the same position) would be interesting
3. Beginner players get exposed to book positions that they would never see because even if they memorize an opening, their opponent playing black leaves book on move 3
4. If you are sick of seeing the London over and over again, there is a slim chance you start with it
