[Black’s Turn 2] Chess with Gravity, on a normal board. (Variant 5)

The game has started!

So, chess with gravity isn’t that exciting and has definitely been done before. But all the variants I have seen have the board rotated 90 degrees. This will be chess with gravity, except with the normal chess starting position.

In this variant, every White piece will fall “down” (towards the 1st rank), and every Black piece will fall “up” (towards the 8th rank). The goal is to checkmate the enemy King.

A piece does not capture another piece by falling onto it. It must move onto that square to capture it. Gravity takes effect at the end of that player’s turn.

Only two pieces are immune to gravity: Pawns and Kings. This means that Pawns are much more valuable in this variant, since they can lift your pieces higher without you needing to stack them.

It is possible to inadvertently self-check in this variant. The move may be taken back if that is the case for the first three self-checks, but on the fourth, you just actually make that move, and can lose by King capture.

Congratulations on joining! We will now wait for @Fet to claim their spot. If they do not do it within the next 24 hours, their spot will be opened in an open seek.

And sorry to anyone who prejoined. The queue has been emptied.

I rarely allow custom pieces. However, @KurtAngleJr wants blue pieces, so I will make his pieces blue. @Fet, if you want some certain custom pieces, I might be able to get them for you. No guarantee, though.

Gravity Chess: All pieces are affected by gravity and “fall” to their respective ranks. Pawns and Kings and immune to gravity.

Is 1. e4 ok?

Avatar of GraysonKellogg

Yeah. @KurtAngleJr starts off strong with the classic e4.

Also, I’m not perfect, if you see a mistake, please let me know so I can correct it.

@Fet, your army of pieces await your first command. What will you do?

@Fet played e5. The board is now perfectly matched.

Your turn, @KurtAngleJr!

@KurtAngleJr plays Nf3. Please note that the g2 Pawn does not fall, as pawns are immune to gravity.
Your move, @Fet!
