The original joseki I developed in this opening sacrificed 3 pawns for positional compensation. This works too.

This game has played out like a game of go. Hmm, complicated. Good time for a break.

KaijiAUT

Yeah it's quite interesting. I didn't play go yet^^

The situation is difficult to judge for me. I would like to slow down and build up, but it depends on you if you choose to chase the lion and try to half-open your lines by sacrificing pawns

dax00

I don't chase lions. That's for amateurs. I set bait, and if my opponent gets too stuck in, I trap their pieces. I don't like kicking pieces away. I like imprisoning them.

One time I played a Japanese pro and trapped his lion and 2 free kings in just one game due to his overaggression. The cost was 7 minor pieces and 6 pawns. Complex traps I set that game.

KaijiAUT

Yes but the danger of beeing entrapped forces the movement, that is what I mean by chasing. Of course only directly when you can develop simultaneously.

Did you go to Japan and meet the chu shogi renmei yet? Or just played online.

I would like to go to Japan in two years and would like it in combination with tournament participation

dax00

I don't chase. Chasing is rarely a good idea. It's not development if you use the same pieces over and over. Even then it's not often a good idea to develop more than a certain number (around 2) of long-ranged pieces early on. Only against a beginner, maybe. By trap, I mean locking pieces inside my position.

Online. There are a few strong players online if you know where to find them.
