Chu Shogi - dax00 vs KaijiAUT 第二局

I am not sure if I get what you try to explain.

About DH > DK I have the same feeling, because it seems the colums are easier to be filled with step-movers and forks are in the lategame easier made by DH.

R > B is also understandable to me, because B can't change colour.

But VM > R and GB > G I don't get. Does this refer to the fight at the flank? G has same plus additional moves compared to GB and a better promotion option. Therefore I don't understand that, if you don't speaking about the important position the GB is^^ not sure

For VM > R it is similar but there I can somehow follow if you prefer VM because of promotion (I really like the flying ox movement).

Thank you for sharing your experience with me, I'm always interested happy.png

Current position I would evaluate that you are a little bit better of.

You controll the free room at the moment and the material is also a little bit to your advantage (I think besides value of the pieces it is a good think to have more mayor pieces than the enemy. You have the lead here by one piece). The one good think I have right now, is that I moved my step movers more often, so I might get them into play.

The go-between is so important positionally, I would happily start the game down both golds and a bronze if my opponent lost both their go-betweens. More moves don't necessarily make a piece more powerful. Even without promotion, I slightly prefer vertical mover over rook. It has a smaller profile. Against a player who appreciates its value, then without promotion, obviously rook is better, but with half-decent promotion odds I still take the vertical mover.

If I had to convert my eval into chess terms, I feel like this game is currently around +2.3

KaijiAUT

Yeah that makes sense, especially thinking about that gold and copper would need to reach the front first.

You underestimate how strongly I value positional advantages in chu shogi. One time I valued one of my pawns at negative 1.3 free kings. There were no pins.

I've refused undefended vertical movers (3 times) and side movers (2 times) in favor of maintaining a solid position. I've sacrificed a whole horse for 1 tempo in a 20-move sequence. I've traded a phoenix for a pawn to force a file open.

G - 7d

That sounds crazy but still makes sense compared to chess. No piece can cover a lot of the field and the number of pieces is overall much higher. Therefore the holes can be fixed. In endgame also slow weak pieces can move together forward being hard to attack by stronger ones.

You're right on that last sentence, at least. King + 2 bronzes + 2 silvers + 2 leopards + 2 tigers wins against king + lion, if you can get organized in time. If playing with the 199 move rule, it can get close if they all started around the first/second rank.

You had a chance to play 9五歩 earlier, but it's too late now. Aggressively attacking from a weaker position is wrong, but aggressively defending from a weaker position is sometimes called for. Anti-lion tactics take some time to internalize.

KaijiAUT

Oh that was a big mistake. If I pushed P - 9e, I could have played DK - 9d after if taken right? Well I missed that.

Now I still want to push the pawn to at least open the file....

P - 9e

dax00

Correct. P-9e is sensible here still.

Ln9e!
