My son taught me a new version of chess were you can move your piece on to square of another piece of yours and it will then take on the characteristics of both those pieces. you can separate and recombine as much as you want. Only exception is no one can combine with a king. If a pawn/ anything promotes both pieces are removed to the promoted piece. If a combined piece is captured both pieces are removed. It is fun interesting way to play.
