Crazyhouse is officially dead now.

Like the title says. Crazyhouse has been removed from the tournaments. It now has been moved to the Variants section to die in oblivion. It was good while it lasted.

What a shame...

Did you complain to the admins?

Avatar of Cleveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeer

No way. i was in the break, but still wanted to play some games after passing the exams. omg when it happened? is it really they decreased it's level??

Avatar of Chucklemange

They still have "tournaments" on the variant site, but they are all weird time controls like 3/3, 4/3, 5/3, 5/7, so nobody plays them.

They did break out ratings into bullet/blitz/standard zh, though, which is a nice concession, even if they don't seem to be on the same scale (bullet is roughly 500 below blitz in terms of rating for the same caliber of player).

I tried the variant thing and it was garbage. Back to bughouse!

Avatar of Opatos

I have accepted its sudden death when arenas were removed.. Those were nice 7 years or so.

Was fun playing with you all, see you on Lichess from time to time maybe!

Btw I think Silklin tried addressing chess.com, but I guess there was no luck there

Avatar of toddmarkington

Is Lichess any good? Have never used it.

Avatar of Chucklemange

Better competition, arenas almost every hour of the day, so yes.

Spartacus-60 launched this topic when they brutally kiled crazyhouse: https://www.chess.com/forum/view/site-feedback/concern-regarding-removal-of-variant-tournaments-118737428?page=1

No use. Nobody cares, chess.com does not even bother answering.

Lichess is the alternative, and it's really good, with regular crazyhouse arenas, 1min, 2min, 3min and 5min, with cool options (beserk). They don't have bughouse, but other than that, much better than McDonaldsChess.com.

Bye everyone and see you on

See you on lichess

By discontinuing chess variants, chess.com has not only lost much of its appeal but has also destroyed a thriving community.

I’ve since realized that I now spend most of my online time on Lichess (nickname "Green_Horn") and have therefore decided not to renew my premium membership on chess.com.

At this point I’d like to thank everyone for a wonderful time, for the exciting tournaments, the interesting discussions, and the many battles we fought together.

Well said, Absteiger04, I am also moving to lichess full time - expert239.

Avatar of Chucklemange

I'm sure you'll still see most of us around. Almost every decent crazyhouse player plays on both sites. Up until now, at least.

Avatar of Nordlandia

@Absteiger04 No offense, but the variants are really fighting a losing battle against the original game that everyone knows how to play. It's kinda weird, but most chess folks don't seem too keen on messing around with new rules or pieces.

I like variants, they have some core mechanics like the center of king of the hill.

What?!? That’s so sad. It was incredible
Avatar of Cevap_master

@Nordlandia That makes no sense. Chess and variants are not mutually exclusive. There was no battle to lose in the first place. It's a Trump-style argument. It's like saying "yeah, we had to get rid of ping pong, cause it was loosing the battle against tennis".

Avatar of 31martinezab

Yeah variants are some of the things to do if you are tired of too complicated chess choices and low time.

Avatar of 31martinezab

And just for fun too when you know new strategies.
