Hello chess world!
Please consider joining a community of players discovering a new way to play chess. -- https://www.chess.com/join/dragonanga
Dragonanga is a variant derived from Chaturanga. The gameplay is extremely different, focusing a lot more on diagonals, and restricting knight moves to Xiangqi knight moves. This adds for very tricky moves, pins, discovered attacks, and more.
I have played the variant countless times now and developed a few personal strategies, though I'm sure that there are more ways to play that I have not thought of. The game is always very theoretical; I sometimes spend hours studying different opening styles I can come up with, and trying to find best moves for the most human lines. I have not found an engine that works with the full ruleset, but I find that not having access to an engine just makes the game more magical. Discovering new ideas feels like a real accomplishment, rather than being given ideas from an engine. I hope to see more Dragonanga players in the community in the future, thanks for reading!
