Not sure I even understand the question, but while promoting, hold alt on your keyboard (or option on mac) before promoting and you'll have the option to promote to anything. Alternatively, make sure you don't have "auto promote to queen" enabled in your settings

How do I make it so that a piece other than a pawn(say, a berolina) can get promoted? Because I have sergeants functioning as pawns in a custom setup but they can't get promoted when I take them to the end. How can I make my setup so that they can get promoted?
