Is chess variants dead?

At the top are current games and players count, (outdated but the average by the way) why are they so low and there are only 1.5K players, even though Chess.com has 20M active players? Is that counter local to my country or is it global?

There's a strong group of chess variant players that play the most logical variant created in my opinion, but chess dot com does nothing to promote this great game and the code here for this variant online here is poorly written. The discord channel of this variant has the best players and they're friendly and approachable.

I think chess variants are not emphasised enough when a player chooses to play a game.

Chess960 is brilliant!! Give players time to realize this. Give them a lot of time. One by one, people will realize that Bobby Fischer really was trying to help chess with his variant.

Linchess variants are better. Unlike Chess.com, which has a poor matchmaking system. (1500 starting ELO, 320 vs 2130 potentially)

I don’t think the problem is really that players don’t realize that Bobby Fischer really was trying to help chess with Chess960 yet. It’s obvious that parts of his variant help chess. The problem is that these parts can get lost in the shuffle that he insisted on putting in it. Which is where he probably jumped the gun given that there were masters, including the FIDE President Max Euwe, who were already all for David Bronstein’s Pre-Chess, which allows the players to set up their own pieces, at the time he contested and won the World Chess Championship.

Gothic Chess is the most logical variant created, but it is not unique. Inevitably, new pieces will be necessary. They logically should draw from the directions Chess already uses and the board logically should expand to make room for at least one of them. The error of Seirawan Chess and the generalized Musketeer Chess is that they force fit anything new onto the classical board.
