I'm open for Progressive 960 (Italian rules). You choose the starting position and color . I'll post diagram after each move. 3 days per move. Does anybody want to play Progressive chess 960?

How do you play?

Choose any random position from here https://www.mark-weeks.com/cfaa/chess960/c960strt.htm Choose your color. Write here (in this topic) your move. Then I will post the diagram after each move. Here are the rules of Progressive Chess https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Progressive_chess#:~:text=Progressive%20chess%20is%20a%20chess,makes%20four%20and%20so%20on. As far as I know there are no sites on the net offering correspondence Progressive Chess960. So let's play here using this forum.

Happy to play you at Progressive 960, Pokshtya (provided we play without help from computers!). I selected this starting position RBQNKRBN at random, and I'll play Black. I think 'Scottish' rules are preferable to 'Italian', but it's only a small difference so you can choose. Three days per move is good, not too slow and not too fast.

See this earlier post about Progressive (where the rules are explained) and I commented there about the possibility of playing 960 (comments #8 and #16). I used to play Progressive often (by post), but I've never played the 960 version. https://www.chess.com/forum/view/chess960-chess-variants/progressive-chess2

I don't know if there are any apps for Progressive Chess960.

Already a complex position! I'll try 2.c5 Ne6.

Those were good development moves. Seems best to capture White's queen now and there are three ways - I'll go for 4.f5 Be5 Bxb2 Bxc1.

Congratulations on finding that checkmate! I looked very carefully to make sure there was no mate, but I missed your clever bishop manoeuvre. I don’t think I’ve ever lost a serious game of Progressive so quickly! OK, I will try again soon - you can select a position and I’ll play White. But please wait for a week or ten days, when I hope to have more time, and right now you have another opponent and I’ll follow those games with interest.

I just remembered that the Progressive Chess app I have on my phone also plays 960 (with Italian rules it seems). Castling is not enabled in 960, but usually you don’t want to castle so that doesn’t matter much. Also on this phone version you cannot set up a specific position, but there is a PC version with extra features that I haven’t tried (you need to have Java installed). I don’t know how strong this program is - I’ve only played quick games with it, and it’s good at finding mates but maybe not so good positionally.
