I guess I vote e5. Shall we play it
Martin vs the world analysis thread #4

After e5 I think Martin will retreat to either h7 or e8, and I'm leaning more towards ...Nh7. Then we might be able to play e6, I haven't fully calculated it.

I think e6 is fine, if he captures he weakens his kingside. I actually don't think he'll play Nfd7, instead Ne8, leaving us with exd6 Nxd6..

Looking a 9. Kf1 right now, and there is nothing that inspires me.

Vote e5.

^e6 is only fine if he plays Nfd7, blocking the bishop.
If Ne8 or Nh7, I don't think e6 works for us.

Wait, in that image above, c5 is hanging, so he probably won't like that line. He'll have to go exd6, but this does allow him to trade a rook for bishop if he chooses. Caution required here.

Nonetheless, with our current e5 we may have him backing up, our control of the center is daunting, and we'll have plenty of more days to consider how things go forward in this very exciting Event Variant game!

I'm finding some nice tactics if we give up a pawn with e6...
9. e5 Nh7 10. e6 fxe6 11. dxe6 Bxd6 12. Nd5 Nf6 13. Bb6 Qd7...
Now 14. Bc8 wins on the spot.
Of course he probably doesn't allow this, but this hopefully shows we have a dynamic position here.
I can't see Martin trading pawns after e5, it leaves him worse.
He'll retreat the knight to d7, which then attacks the e5 pawn. We'd then have to play either e6 or exd6. I think I kinda like e6, but it's hard to say if the isolated pawn there (after fxe6 dxe6) is a strength or weakness.
