Martin vs the world analysis thread #4

Right, d5 is very risky. If Martin starts an event, the tables may turn.
What event? I mean seriously, what event could he start that could seriously harm us? I can't think of any.
The elephant in the room next Event.
If there is a neutral move, something just psychological-enough to prompt Martin to play his Event "card," then it might be worth our while to make that move now, rather than to risk an Event later on down the line, that might make — occur — an even more misfortunate Event… for… us. (… down the line…)
Is d5 sufficient enough to buy us the time needed, that might result in Martin declaring… Event ??
This is all part and parcel — de riguerue — of this sort of skullduggerry.
Vote d5.
We should definitely not be using engines to analyze moves. I'm almost completely certain that's not allowed here. I think we are basically using daily chess rules (where engines are not allowed), except where the rules specific to event chess apply.
7. e5 is trash (for white) and we don't need an engine to see that. I forgot that we're still in the opening, so I forgot to check an opening database first. 7. e5 has been played before and the refutation is in opening explorer.
The refutation is as follows: 7. e5 cxd4 8. 8. exf6 (8. Qxd4 Nfd7 and we're in a lot of trouble. The e-pawn is pinned and it's attacked 3 times, but only protected once, so we can't save it I think.) 8...exf6 9. Bd2 dxc3 10. Bxc3 and we're just down a pawn for barely any compensation.
We should definitely not play 7. e5. I missed 7. e5 cxd4 earlier.

Cool Event!
Easy to comprehend, all 4 Bishops are still on the board and the board is still crowded…
and we're not about to be checkmated or lose our Queen suddenly.
I like it!
Now, what will be Martin's move? We'll soon see.

We'd then immediately capture it, he'd have one count of check on us, but we'd still have both our Bishops remaining, and be a Bishop up.
Agreed, he probably won't do it.

This basically changes the first event to 4-check instead of 5-check, as the final check is likely to be very easy if both bishops remain. Queen and rook sacs will become particularly dangerous.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the bishops are now better than rooks. Maybe not on a clear board, but in a crowded position, and where we're playing 5-check, the bishops are really good pieces now. We definitely do not want to trade one off for a knight, that's for certain.
We need to castle, so our next decision is which way to go. I would say k-side is better, since if we go q-side, then we'd need to also play Kb1 and Ka1 to get our king off an open diagonal. This gives Martin time to launch his attack before we can. So q-side seems bad to me.
We probably need to play h3 to control g4.
Overall I like our position and like the events. Not too complex, but interesting.
