there is this varient called "chessplus", where each peice but the king is half of a peice and can connect to other peices if it moves onto the other peice (example, a horse on b1 can connenct to any peice of the same team but the king on c4, or d3, as long as its not connected with another peice and the same asumesion for the peice its gonig to) its an intresting varient, and i think that other then some grouping issues, and making the peices look normal when cut in half, it could be somewhat simple to code.
