New variant idea, wrap around chess

Sort:

It is s simple idea so I am sure it has already been done. Basically the left and the right of the board 'wrap around' like a pacman game.

In this example the black queen would be putting white in check, because the diagonal goes around the board. But the knight is threatening the queen.

I was just wondering what you guys thought about it

It has to be possible with a rectangular board, would it be? Chess.com Variants does not support any non-rectangular board, and the developers have no plans to

I played it a couple times with a normal chess board, i didn't even think it would need anything special

It only wraps around to the left and the right

That sounds like my entire chess career. I get so much tunnel vision that I completely miss such obvious things. I have played maybe 10 or so games of this, and me, a 900, was the best chess player out of all my opponents. So I am very interested in see what a game with high rated chess players looks like, and what kind of tactics becomes possible. I have found a new scholars mate that is now possible.

I meant a high level wrap around chess game. The only games of this new variant I have seen have had low level players, two of them even ended in a scholars mate. So I am curious what crazy moves become possible

Yeah, though I will probably lose pretty quick

you both forget that this is exactly cylindrical chess...

For me to forget I would have to have known that existed in the first place. I mentioned my idea might not be entirely unique, but this variant can be played on a normal chess board, unlike cylindrical chess.

cylindrical chess can also be played on a normal board as it is the same rules as this

Alright then, as I said I sure I wasn't the first to come up with it.
