New Variant: Promotion Frenzy

I came up with a variant called Promotion Frenzy, and I have two ways it can be played:

(Note, the goal is the same as normal chess.)

1. When a pawn reaches the 5th rank (4th for black) then it can promote. (Note, it can only promote into a Knight, Rook, or Bishop.)

2. When a pawn reaches the 8th rank, all remaining pawns promote.(Note, all pawns not on the back rank can only turn into Knights, Bishops, or Rooks.)

What do you think?

Which way do you like most, way 1 or way 2?

PunchboxNET

In the first way, there is an easy way to promote early

Then e5 or d5 promotes

adrian_mclain

i like the second way a bit better, but the first way is also really cool

from this position i would promote e5 to a rook, then the knight would likely capture the rook, then the d5 pawn would capture the knight and promote to a rook

Yes i would do that too, adrian_mclain

I will name the 2 variants Promotion Frenzy 1 and Promotion Frenzy 2.

Who wants to play in Promotion Frenzy 2?

On the above mentioned board, black’s better move is 4... d6 then 5. dxe5=R+ dxe5 and black is only down a kinght for a pawn.
