Introducing:

The Mage: A New Fairy Chess Piece with 6 Movement Sets + Mind Control

I’ve been working on a brand new fairy chess piece, and I’m finally ready to share it.
This piece is called The Mage, and it’s one of the most unique pieces I’ve ever designed.

It has:

6 different movement sets
Random movement each turn
A special ally swap ability
A mind control mechanic that lets you move an enemy piece
A full rulebook (in progress)
A 3D printable design (in progress)

THE MAGE: MOVEMENT SYSTEM
At the start of each turn where you move the Mage, you randomly determine which of the 6 movement sets is active: roll a die, draw a token, etc.

Here are the exact movement patterns:

Set 1: Cross Form

Set 2: Full Burst (5×5 Control Field)

Moves anywhere within 2 squares except the 4 corners.

Set 3: Hollow Ring

Moves 1 square forward only.

SPECIAL ABILITY 1: Ally Swap
Instead of moving normally, the Mage may swap positions with any friendly piece on the board:

Works with any ally
Instant swap
Counts as a Mage move
Cannot swap with enemies
SPECIAL ABILITY 2: Mind Control / Manipulation
Every time the Mage has moved 5 times, you unlock a Mind Control Turn.

On that turn, you may choose to:

Move the Mage normally
or
Move any one enemy piece as if it were your own, including the king
You can force the enemy king to walk into a losing position or even into checkmate as long as the move is legal. (as in movement, so if its a king it has to move like a king)

After using Mind Control, the counter resets to 0.

Why I Designed This Piece
I wanted a piece that:

Feels magical
Is unpredictable
Creates wild tactics
Has both power and risk
Can completely change the flow of a game
The Mage is basically a teleporting spellcaster with mind hijacking every 5 moves.

3D Model Coming Soon
I’m currently designing a diamond headed Mage in Blender so it can be 3D printed.
Once it’s done, I’ll share the STL file here.
