WFB regulation

To answer your OP. Your tool is great. Despite of that, there are players who find it too much trouble to learn such a tool. There are people who are willing to mod games of other players. There are also people who play Bulldog chess, but who would not play Bulldog chess at all if it would involve for them to update their own boards.

For a variant to become popular I think it is important to be as easy to play as possible for new players.
Just learning the rules and constantly going back to a forum where you just post notation instead of moving pieces is too much for some people. Requiring players to learn to use a board editing tool would be another step and I don't think it would be wise to make things harder for new players.
Many people don't use an analysis board when playing correspondence and WFB is something for those players to see the current position before making a move. It also validates that both players are looking at the same position, so no player made a mistake in their diagram. Also, in my view the games are not just for the players playing. When someone is constantly posting board updates it becomes much easier for spectators to watch the game. WFB helps the moderator catch up to the current position and of course a players time should not be running while he is waiting for a moderator.
Since most board editors don't have move history it also becomes much easier to just look back in the forum topic and read similar to how you would read a chess book which includes both moves and diagrams.
The statement that WFB is just used to get extra time to think is plainly wrong. People could use it that way, but in over 99% of cases that is not the case. When I update boards for my own games then I update the current position after every move. A player can only request a board update after 2 plies (1 move from each player), so it is impossible to use WFB to gain time when playing against me.
Many people like this WFB rule, so it is very unlikely to change.

I would add that I do think mods should respond to WFB within 24 hours max, preferably sooner. Please don't think I'm having a go Martin, you do so much for this community that it's completely understandable why you would struggle to find the time to manage everything, just know that if you're struggling with your workload you can always ask me to take a game off your hands. I'm aware that I don't do as much as I should, I'm more lazy with the musketeer set because it's a little more time consuming to use, but I shouldn't use that as an excuse to be lazy. I'll do my bit from here on out and ensure I have at least one mod running to help you, vick and evert out.

[post moved from Giga Tournament thread]
The way we currently do things, we have a mod whose responsibilities include posting boards, as well as settling player disputes. Friendly games are often modded by the players involved without a third party, but tournament games tend to be moderated by only a few people, usually Martin, evert or Vick.
We don't expect everyone to use analysis tools. Some people play chess more casually than others, for some they want no more than to spend ten minutes staring at a board. I like to analayse, but we want to accommodate everyone. That's why, for tournament games in particular, it's the moderator's responsibility to post regular boards, or if the players are doing so, to ensure the boards are accurate.
I'm sure this will be discussed amongst the Federation who decide the rules. I have a vote, but personally I'm not keen to change anything unless there's evidence of people abusing it. In most cases, people are still moving within the three day limit, even when they WFB. It's actually people like me, those who analyse, that slow games down. I often take all of my time, people who don't use analysis tools usually move once a day or faster, often at the pace the mod updates the boards.
If you're concerned that someone is abusing the rules, you can pm me, Martin, evert or Vickalan to raise your concerns in private, and it will be reviewed.
What kind of stupid regulation is the WFB that people use here?
All of us have the Tools to edit boards, and the people that are WFB use this to have extra time to think.
I really Don't understand this regulation.
When you play a correspondance match you Don't wait for Board ?
This also gives extra unnecessary work for the moderators. Their only role should be when the players disagree on the legal move or position and to witness the result of the game.
