What is chaturanga for you? The first meaning of this word, in a chess context (there are other contexts) is the ancient game of chess played in North-West India from the years 600 C.E. It is similar to chatrang of Persians, later shatranj of the Arabs, i.e. a game for 2 players, usually played by skill with no dice. For some, chaturanga means the variant first described in 1030 as a four-handed game, sometimes played with dice. Is that your favorite variant?
