I highly recommend xiangqi.com It is a free website where you can play against an engine and against real players with rating approximations similar to how it’s done on this site. It also offers free puzzles for you to solve such as to mate in X number of moves.

The site, xiangqi.com, is also operated by very good people who care about creating interest in the game outside of China and Vietnam (countries where it is played most). I think Chinese chess is one of about 3-4 major chess variants played by large number of people in the world. Others are Shogi, Makruk, JiangGi (Korean version). Of course there are other forms of chess but those are the major ones.

Correction of terms.

These are not chess "variants".

Chess variants are descendants of Western Chess.

Western Chess, Chinese Chess, Japanese Chess, Thai Chess are descendants of Chaturanga.

Korean Chess is a descendant of Chinese Chess. So yes, it is a variant.

Variants are essentially grandchildren of Chaturanga.
