Yeah, I almost did that. Was your tactic going to be 24... Rxi4 25. Bj3 ?

Indeed. It only wins a pawn, you retreat your rook and I grab the piece back, but it's a nice way to win a pawn.
I could possibly tweak the cat so it can jump two or three, much like the hawk in infinite chess. That stops it being restricted to colour, makes it more agile like a cat should be. Since it can't capture when jumping, this isn't a huge power boost.
Yeah, I think this would be really good.

Either that or combine the current jump with a knight jump. Perhaps the range of the three-jump is a little much for an 8x10 board. I'll have a think. I do think the cat is a little subdued as it currently is though. The mouse seems fine. I did consider queen move rather than rook, but I'm glad to see that wasn't really necessary. I didn't want to overpower the pieces.
I used the board painter to show the options for the cat...
"hawk" style -
and current style + knight -
I think I prefer the bottom one. Agile but not too lethal, and doesn't outrange the knight.
I agree. Either could work, but the second one looks like it would work a little bit better .

King moves three, so this is the position after kingside castling...
I'll give you some time to change your mind if you wish, I don't want to be grabbing pawns because you thought king moves two (and therefore rook protects pawn).
Of course, casling is difficult without dropping a pawn, so perhaps you're reluctantly happy to drop the pawn.
