I suspect some hold out chess purist in the higher ups of the staff that just hates variants and is holding up live 960 to be a dick.  At least thats how I imagine it.

then why would it be available for correspondance games?

Standard chess is 1400 years over-due for an over-haul! It is an obsolete relic of the past. There is no place for for standard chess in the modern world.

Chess960 is the future!!!

This is very well said!

Please dear developers of live Chess960 at Chess.com (if you ever do bring in this wonderful alternative to standard chess), please please ensure that white's clock starts immediately at move zero otherwise white get's too much of an advantage.

If white's clock is still (as it is in standard), white gets to see the start position all the way up to the 3rd move at no time penalty! Considering that by definition black is on the back foot because white moves first (as in standard), this implementation of the clock is essential otherwise you will see more white wins than is warranted and people will become negative about playing black, when they should not be.

I know people will say "but can't black study the position at no cost of time during white's first move?" This is fine for standard chess where the opening is memorized. The problem is that black has no clue what white is going to play and so must guess. If black guesses wrong, any analysis they did during the still clock is wasted while this is never the case for white!

Hitting black with the first time penalty would be simply ridiculous.

Thankyou for listening.

Cheers

Or better yet, have whites clock start, after a 10 second delay.

Too many times I've accepted a chellenge in live chess, and already timed out before i've gotten there. "Game has been aborted"

Good point varelse. It is more difficult to implement a clock that starts immediately in a networked environment where there are network delays and other game syncing problems. However, it should be possible somehow.

Let's hope Chess.com is onto it.

Cheers

Totally agree, we want live chess960 now!

Although I think you need maybee 10 or 15 mins minimum for a chess960 game if play is not to be too sloppy now that you have no opening book and cannot fall back on typical positions, but that would be up to players of course.

Live chess is about like watching paint dry.  BORING.  If you type live chess960 into a search engine there are various free live sites that play this variant.  Or, if like me you find chess only useful as a tool to deal with pushy people, try playing Go, or wei-chi where you can actually have more freedom than the traditional boring openings that defines chess.
