Chess on an Infinite Plane (HorribleTomato - captaintugwash)

This is a real battle of ideals! Strong center vs development. Also, even if a chancellor could jump while moving like a rook, I would still probably favor the Queen. She is OP on an infinite board.

Possibility of blizzards here over next few days, if that's the case I might not be able to get online. Not sure how good this dongle is in those conditions!

You are so magical Tugwash.

An intermediate diagram (some move numbers above went off by one, but are corrected here):

I  though you might have taken the opportunity to remove the queens.

The hawks are great defensive pieces too. After your expected 11. N(3,3), if I were to develop with say 11... N(3,6), you have 12. H(4,2)!, which unpins the knight, thus attacking the queen, and also attacks the bishop through the knight. I'd be forced to give up my bishop for knight, not a good trade on infinite. So after you block the check, I need to take that into account.

Your hawk is doing a good job easing the pressure in the centre.

captaintugwash

Actually I wouldn't have to give up the bishop, I'd retreat the queen to (5,7), but still the hawk is doing a good defensive job. I like the unpin coupled with the attack through the unpinned piece, it's a nice dynamic that only the hawk can achieve.

HorribleTomato

N(3,3) as expected nothing much too do then.
