Bump.
Chess960 Explained!
Tried chess 960 few days ago and i love it. While in classical I am more of a positional player i truly enjoy the tactical mayhem that comes with chess 960 even though it mostly bites me in the rear.

Wait, there's going to be a FRC championship? I've really been out of the loop. There was a guy a couple of weeks ago posting about where to find some Chess960 games, hoping he'll get a lot out of this match.

Apparently, yeah! Not sure if you checked my prediction link, but in the description there's a link to the official site of the event. Or you can also check it here:

If you wanted to play Chess960 without a computer, what process would you use to determine the starting position?

Here is a PGN of a games in progress. It is NOT my game, but the initial Back Rank Positions are the same for both sides as thay were at the start of the game.
It seems ro me that both players may only castle to one side by virtue of the Two Rooks flanking the King with one Rook in a corner.
I am wondering if the initial position is "legal", or perhaps valid is another way of putting it.
Odd one this. Any answer from a 960 expert please?

I'm not a 960 expert, but I am an expert at Castling in Chess 960. So long as the King is between the two Rooks and the Bishops are on opposite colors, then the position is a legal 960 position. The rules are Castling in these will seems a bit strange... but bear with me.
First you have to clear out the spaces between the landing squares for the target Rook and the King. There can be no pieces between. You may then initiate the Castle move. This position has a very delayed Castling.
At this point the King could Castle Kingside 0-0, for example, by moving the King to G and the King Side Rook to F.
To Castle Queen side, you would need to move the remaining Rook out the way (at least past D file) and then you could move 0-0-0 by placing the King on C and the Queen Side Rook on D.
If you enjoy double random chess you might want to try my site. It is non commercial. Ad free, cookie free and tracker free. You have to enable javascript though.
Why double random? No position is equal, even if the positions are mirror images of each other, white moves first. You get more variation with double random. This should make wilder games that more often results in victory for one side.
Instructions are on the site. In short, white and black chooses separately, the position is identified by an integer. The first player that chooses gives that integer to the second player who uses the integer to select his/hers position. Both gets three positions to select between, but black can exchange two pieces (within the setup rules) before choosing. The position number is then used to show the full selection.
You can check my site beforehand by searching for website check or website info or something similar.

Each time I start a chess 960 game the board starts with the same position. This seems pointless. I can find no way to shuffle the pieces.

can I play 960 chess in one minutes ? or 5 minutes? I dont see how to choice the option on my phone app
