Are there though? All the pieces are still on the 1st rank blocked in by their own pawns..how much of an advantage, from say, I don't know, both bishops pointing toward the enemy king, could be gained? Wouldn't the imbalances on both sides cancel each other out?

You can create starting positions with forced loss of material.

I hate chess 960. Different people different taste. I hate to the hilt.
But I like both regular chess and chess960.. AND YOO @erik i KNOW
Chess960 starting positions range from 0.0 to 0.79 evals. If you allow random starting positions for both sides, you end up with unbalanced starting positions that are considered winning/losing right out of the gate.
