There's a lot of chess variations out there. I know a lot of them and a lot about them. Here's a trivia question about Chess960 :

Which famous chess player "invented" Chess960?

Bobby Fischer. This is why Chess960 is also called Fischerandom chess.

No.  Bobby popularized it, but I believe it was Pal Benko who invented it.  I could google it I suppose, but it's your thread and I don't, if truth be known, really care.

That's what I found in a book. I had hoped that it's not false information. I guess I was wrong.

It came up during the recent 960 match between Magnus and Hikaru.  I think that's where I heard it. Anyway Yasser Seriwan was commentating and that's what he said.  No independent verification on my part because as I said, I don't really care....I'm just bored and can't sleep. frustrated.png

There have also been other variations of chess other than the ones chess.com have. Examples are : 3D Chess, Atomic Chess, Hexagonal chess, blindfold chess, Capablanca chess, and more. My favorite out of all of them are Atomic chess.

@baddogno: my feeling is that variant with fairy pieces is not taken seriously. I.e. capablanca chess 10x8 + two new pieces add too much asymmetry. Seirawan variant is more likely to be added i believe.
