convincing friends to get into vairiants?

Trying to get some friends into bug and crazy house, but they just aren't keen. At all. I mean, literally, they hate the idea.

Any tips or ways I can maybe try to persuade them into it?

But if they even tried, I hated the idea of most variants, now I'm a fan.

I literally hate bug and crazy house, but I adore lots of other variants.

What is it exactly that they don't like about bug/crazyhouse? If you're going to get them into variants in general, I'd always start with Fischerrandom. It's a nice light variant, you really can't go wrong with it. If they don't like the idea of Fischerrandom, that should tell you that they won't stomach anything heavier.

@chesssdotcomv3sucks you're talking about Finesse, right? You're the first person I've seen that's mentioned it. What didn't you like about it?

You could try Glinski's hexagonal chess. It's not just "chess with slightly different rules" and is quite fun to play. Half the reason to play chess variants is to use something other than the old 64 square board.

Black has all 16 pieces. White has 5 pawns and a king. White has the advantage. White has 2 moves to black's one. White can move into check and out of check. If black captures all 5 pawns black must checkmate white in 20 moves.
