Could we please stop calling Chess960 a variant?

No, Khet is a forced loss in 85

Not just a discussion but a heated and passionate argument for some.

Does that make us all losers?

Khet looks pretty cool though with those laser beams, the marketing idea tickles the nerdy parts of me. But I guess I'll stick to chess. Unless there is something like khet.com with interactive forums. Does someone have a DOS emulator for the game? (trying my bestest computer lingo here)

Avatar of heinzie

If my khet.com rating is 1250, does someone have a prediction of my estimated FIDE rating?

Avatar of chessroboto

What do you need a DOS emulator for?

ADDED: In any case, look into DOSBox. Wink

I think it is unreasonable to say Khet is a chess960 variant

OK I'll stop here. Trying too hard.........

Last push to pique the curiosity of the inner geek in (possibly) each one of us:

Eye of Horus expansion pieces. They are bsically laser beam splitters as can be seen on the images below. Think of them as the Hawk and Elephant of the Seirawan Chess pieces.

Tower of Kadesh expansion platform, essentially adding a 3rd dimension to the already complicated game. Think of it as the movable platforms on the Star Trek Tri-Dimensional chess set. A move or a 90-deg turn is any player's move in itself.

Lasers and mirrors... beam splitters... three dimensions.

Doesn't it look really interesting? Wink

Just don't stare directly into the laser beams (per the sticker warnings beside the buttons). I doubt that ignoring that warning will help in helping anyone's "focus." Yell

Did I mention that Khet is a Mensa Select Game of the Year awardee? Cool

I heard all Khet masters play blindfolded

If this were true, I'd say, "Wow! Blinfolded "laser attack" strategies!"

Challenge question: What is the grid coordinate system used during blindfold play? is it the same as A1 system?

Avatar of heinzie

I couldn't help myself, khet.com exists. Live and correspondence Khet, Khet ratings, online Khet tournaments, rampant cheating... it's all there.

"The simplicity of checkers - combined with the strategy of chess...

WITH REAL LASER POWER!!!"

Whoa (for a second there I thought it said Lasker power).

An Ancient Game of Laser Tag

  • Sweet 2 person puzzle game with lasers
  • Use mirrors and playing pieces to aim the laser
  • Like chess, but with more pew pew pew

What do you think powers the lasers?

Here's a hint: they're not made of lithium.

I respectfully suggest the original poster's forum privileges should be restricted until he has proven he's off the crack.

Through over 1000 years of evolution and refinement (TEN CENTURIES!) the game reached it's accepted rules and piece placement, etc, the name 'chess' gradually became accepted nearly world-wide.  Subsequently for the following FIVE HUNDRED YEARS the game's name, piece placement, piece movements stood the test of time.

Now we are going to shuffle the pieces around and steal the name??
