We did manage some Bughouse play at the tournament on January 21, so I made some progress toward my goal of holding a variant tournament. It's a small step, but it's progress.
My next tournament will be April 28. Same place as the last one, in Auburn Hills. Once again, I would happily entertain a Chess960 tournament there. http://gamesinmichigan.com/chessforcharity
If you live in my neck of the woods, consider marking your calendars for that tournament. If you like variants, you'll be glad you did.
I run small, Saturday afternoon Chess tournaments in Michigan. They are not high prestige events, but they are good events. The site is excellent. The entry fee is low (ten dollars), and a portion of that entry fee goes to charity.
I would like to expand beyond "regular" Chess to include Chess variants, especially Chess960, Xiangqi, or Shogi. The problem is that I need players. If you are reading this, and are inclined for OTB play of Chess variants, please contact me.
At my tournaments, there is a large skittles room and I always bring boards for a few variants. I have westernized versions of both Xiangqi and Shogi, as well as other Chess variants and ancient and modern abstract strategy games of various sorts. Yes, I would love to play these games against real players, but you have to show up.
And, even if there aren't enough to hold a tournament of a variant, there's always Chess. My events feature rated and unrated sections.
My next event will be held January 21 in Auburn Hills, Michigan. If you live anywhere near there, and would like to see Chess variants expand beyond your computer screen, please consider coming out.
