For now, I'm protecting my BP closest to your archer:
4.g7
Lightning chess: vickalan vs. silvertruck
I'm planning to add some new rules and pieces to the game since ry said that archers were too op and I want to even it out a bit(not in this game but in future games).
New piece #1: Teleporter
It can teleport itself (hop) anywhere in a 9 by 9 square centered on itself except for itself. It does not capture during this move. It can also teleport other pieces that are three squares away to anywhere it wants. It can't teleport another pieces if a piece in the way. It is normally transparent (piece gets teleported through the teleporter) but right after a teleportation, it loses this ability. It cannot teleport 2 times in a row. It can also move (not capture)like a non-royal king. When it teleports a piece the piece is paralyzed(for friendly pieces too).

New piece #2: Avenger
When your opponent hasn't taken any pieces, the avenger can't move. When they take 1 piece, it can move like a guard, 2 guard + knight, 3 two-step-queen + knight, etc.. For jumping, there has to be less than 2 pieces in the rectangle with the corners of: one square diagonally from the starting square to the jumping square and one square diagonally from the jumping square to the starting square. Put the number of pieces taken by the opponent on the piece.

I don't think the archer is too OP, as long as there's not too many or them. I put its value at around 5 or 6.
The archer never moves when capturing, right? (I think some pieces in Shogi variants have "stationary-feeding" where the capturing piece stays in place).
In any case, here is my evaluation:
For moving, it moves the same as a knight (3 points).
For capturing it attacks 16 squares. That's the same as two knights. (also same as a king, with double distance in each direction). So for attacking the value is 2 x 3 = (6 points).
It can't do both on the same move, so it's value is somewhere between 3 and 6 I think. I'm guessing around 5 or about the same as a rook.
You called for vacation so you will have 7 days total after I play my move. I hope to play my move tomorrow.![]()
Also, I have two questions:
1) Can the backwards pawn capture on its first move when it moves two squares?
2) Can the archer capture over another piece? (capture 2 squares away when it is blocked by an adjacent piece)? The diagram seems to show it's allowed but I just want to make sure. It's basically like a jump (or arrow flying) but the capturing piece does not move.
Thanks for answers to questions. I'm obviously using silvertruck's answers because he invented this game.

The archer is an interesting piece. It's abilities match an archer: moves like knight, and captures in straight lines like an arrow (without the piece moving).
Btw, I'm not doing strong analysis in this game. A little by instinct, and hoping for some luck. When the position gets more complicated I might start getting more serious in my calculation. So far this is fun.
