Monteagudo's chess

Some time ago I talked about a variant in development called "advanced chess".

I have been testing such and ... isn't as good as I expected, in fact, it is not very well designed and does not fit like the extension of the classic game.
The problem is that the use of additional pieces removes that "traditional" essence to the game.

Instead of solve the old version, I have decided to split this variant into two:
The next version of "advanced chess" will not contain extra pieces (at least it will not have reserved extra pieces) and will include many more complex rules;
with the other quality of the old variant (extra pieces), I decided to create a different and independent chess variant: the Monteagudo chess.

Monteagudo chess: pieces:

null

This image shows the initial position of pieces. The extra slots next to the board aren't really required, and simply have an aesthetical purpose. Zoom version: https://imgur.com/M0k8r0m.png

In chess Monteagudo is played with the typical pieces of classic Western chess. However four new pieces are added:

- Fool or joker (primary reserve piece):

this piece has the movement range of the piece previously moved by the opponent.

- Avenger (secondary reserve piece):

this piece will have the movement range of any opponent piece that is attacking this, or any friend piece that is protecting this (ie, It can move like any piece that has it in its trajectory of capture).

If no piece is attacking nor protecting to the avenger, avenger is unable to move.

- Death prentice, harvester or hangman (tertiary reserve piece):

this piece is an universal leaper piece (can move to any square of the board), but it is unable to move freely.

It only can move for capture an opponent piece.

Also, it is unable to capture the king, due to obvious reasons.

Hangman is the only piece of the game which can't be imitated by avenger nor fool.

- Hero or amazon (special promotion piece):

this piece can move like queen or like knight.

All these pieces can be put in board depending of the rules (read more down),
excepting hero, that is only obtained by promotion.

Rules of Monteagudo's  Chess:

This variant of chess has the same rules as traditional western chess (standard chess).

However, pawn promotion rules are changed:

- In Monteagudo chess, pawns can't be promoted to queen, due to balance and aesthetical reasons.

However, you can promote a pawn into the new piece "hero", but only one time in all the match by each player (ie, you only can promote to hero one time in all the game).

Also some new rules are added about the new pieces:

- Fool & fool/avenger movement relation:

If your oponent moves a fool or an avenger, you can move your fool like the piece that the opponent piece imited.

- Fool/avenger & hangman:

Fools and avengers are unable to move like hangman (ie, are unable to imite hangman) due to reasons of power and balance.

- Hangman & king:

Hangman is unable to capture the opponent king, due to obvious reasons.

When fool, avenger and hangman are put in the board?

- Fool:

The fool piece can be added to the first row in any moment of the game, consuming a turn.

- Avenger:

The avenger piece only can be added to the first or second row, if some of your high pieces (any piece not pawn) was captured by the opponent.

- Hangman:

The hangman piece only can be added to any square of the board, any turn after the first check.

Thanks for read.

Good work!
I like the idea of extra slots, systems, or graphics at the side of the board.
I once played "Waterloo" chess which has weird graphics (my opinion) so made a new version of it:
null

Then someone else made a 3D version of the game:
null

Too bad, I don't see the game played anymore. I think more time was spent making the game than playing it.

Programming, playing ...
Actually right now I'm more interested in creating better variants or improve current variants.

Of all my many variants of chess (of which only a few, of recent creation, have been divulgated here), only two or three really worth to bring online.
I haven't created yet any variant of chess that had satisfied myself.

Besides I do not know much about programming, the most I can do is to create some simple variant for the Zillons of games.
I don't know anything about true programming, and the few of my variants that I would strive to bring online have especially unusual mechanics and pieces with very complex movements (I doubt that they can be created using as basis the movement functions of the standard chess or similar).

I will show you these variants someday, currently I have them published in a blog, but it is not in English.
