My Attempt on Fixing Some of the Problems of Chess

how my variant differs from standard chess:

 

opening position: one players starts with his 16 pieces at completely random positions on his first two ranks, unlike in chess960, where pawns are always placed in the same position while only the back row is randomized. the other player's starting position mirrors the random position of his opponent. If a player gets two bishops on the same color of squares, they must switch the position of one of their bishops with an adjacent piece situated on a different color square.

 

movement of pawns: pawns can move and capture 1 square to the north, northwest, and northeast, they can also jump in a straight line over one piece and land on the next unoccupied square. jumping can be done only in the same directions as movement and capturing(N,NW,and NE). Pawns can move or capture up to 2 squares ahead if they are on the second rank of the player who controls them and up to 3 squares ahead if they are on the first rank.

 

1,2,2... move rule: all players move twice per turn unless it is the first turn of the game in which case the player taking that turn can only move once.

 

piece capture: once a piece is captured, it goes into a square of your opponent's choice that is located on your first two ranks. your opponent may not capture the same piece twice in consecutive turns or moves. If a bishop is captured, it must be placed onto a square that has a color that is not the same color of a square that is occupied by another bishop controlled by the capturer's opponent. a player may not capture an opponent's piece if there would be no square that the capturing player could legally place the piece onto after it is captured

 


problems of chess:

 

drawish, especially at higher levels of play - fixed by change 4

memorization/repetitiveness of opening moves - fixed by change 1

first-player has an advantage - fixed by change 3

pawns get stuck - fixed by change 2
